Why haven't I received a payout on P2Pool?
You usually haven’t received a P2Pool payout because you haven’t earned a qualifying share yet, or because P2Pool hasn’t found a Monero block while your share was eligible. Unlike a regular mining pool, P2Pool does not build up a balance and send it once you reach a withdrawal limit.
Check whether you earned a P2Pool share
P2Pool is a mining pool without a central operator holding your earnings. To qualify for payment, your computer must find a P2Pool share: proof of mining work that meets P2Pool’s requirements.
Seeing “accepted” in your mining software does not always mean you found one of these shares. Your miner may report easier submissions used to track your work, rather than shares that qualify for payment.
Check your P2Pool node’s status and logs for shares credited to your mining address. A node is the software that connects you to the pool and checks its records.
If you have no qualifying shares yet:
- Confirm your miner is connected and submitting work.
- Check that P2Pool is synchronized and connected to other participants.
- Look at your estimated time to find a share, if your software provides it.
That estimate is an average, not a countdown. Mining depends on chance, so a longer wait does not automatically mean something is broken.
Your share must overlap with a Monero block
P2Pool uses PPLNS, short for “pay per last N shares.” This means payment goes to qualifying shares in a recent payout window when the pool finds a Monero block.
The window covers 2,160 P2Pool share blocks, roughly six hours under normal conditions. It is measured in share blocks, not a guaranteed number of hours.
Two things must line up:
- You have a qualifying share in the payout window.
- Your P2Pool network finds a Monero block during that window.
If your share leaves the window before a Monero block is found, it earns nothing. It does not become a pending balance for a later payout.
Stopping your miner does not immediately cancel a share that is still eligible. Equally, leaving your miner running does not guarantee that every share will earn a payout.
Make sure you are checking the right pool and address
P2Pool’s main and mini networks have separate share histories. A block found by main does not pay shares submitted to mini, or vice versa.
Mini generally makes it easier for a smaller miner to find qualifying shares, but the network can go longer between Monero blocks. It does not guarantee daily payments.
Also check the wallet address configured in P2Pool. Payments go directly to that address. If you are mining through a browser service, verify whose address receives the P2Pool payments. The service may have its own payout rules, separate from P2Pool.
A payout may be present but still locked
When a payout happens, it arrives directly as part of the Monero block reward. There is no P2Pool withdrawal button.
Your wallet must finish synchronizing before it can show the payment. Newly mined Monero stays locked for 60 blocks—about two hours on average—before you can spend it. This lock delays spending, not the payout itself.
The bottom line
Check for a qualifying share, then check whether your P2Pool network found a Monero block while that share was eligible. If it did, verify your payout address and wallet synchronization. Never pay an “unlock fee” or share your wallet recovery words to release a payout.
