What is the best Android app for mining Monero?

For most people, there is no Android app I would recommend for mining Monero to earn money. If you want to experiment on a spare phone, the most credible route is Termux with XMRig, but it takes technical setup and is not a simple, ready-to-use mining app.

Your best option depends on your goal

If you want an easy app that earns more than it costs, Android mining is usually disappointing. Your phone is designed for short bursts of work, not heavy calculations running all day.

If you want to learn how mining works, consider:

  • Termux: An Android app that gives you a text-based workspace for running Linux-style tools.
  • XMRig: Open-source mining software, meaning its code is available for public inspection. It supports Monero’s mining method.

You may need to build XMRig from its source code inside Termux. Compatibility depends on your phone’s processor, Android version, and available memory. This is a tinkering project, not a guaranteed installation.

Get Termux through a distribution channel identified by its official project. Get XMRig code from the official XMRig project, rather than downloading a random “XMRig Android” APK. An APK is an Android app installation file; its name alone does not prove it is genuine.

Why your phone is a poor mining machine

Monero uses RandomX, a mining method that favors CPUs—the general-purpose processors inside computers and phones. However, “CPU-friendly” does not mean “profitable on any phone.”

RandomX’s fast mode uses a dataset of about 2,080 MB, plus additional working memory. Efficient mining also benefits from roughly 2 MB of L3 cache per mining thread. L3 cache is very fast memory near the processor; a thread is one stream of processing work. Phone hardware often lacks the ideal combination.

When your phone gets hot, it slows itself down to protect its components. That reduces your hashrate, or the number of mining calculations it performs each second.

Your actual result depends on electricity costs, sustained speed, and wear on the device. Check a live mining calculator using a measured hashrate, not an app’s advertised earnings.

Watch out for misleading “mining” apps

Google Play’s policy generally prohibits apps that mine cryptocurrency directly on your device, while allowing apps that remotely manage mining. That means a Play Store listing labeled “Monero miner” may only control another machine or display account balances.

Before installing anything, ask:

  • Does your phone actually perform mining calculations?
  • Is it only a dashboard for a separate computer?
  • Are you buying a cloud-mining contract, where someone claims to mine for you?
  • Can you withdraw real XMR, and what is the minimum withdrawal?

Avoid guaranteed returns, upfront “withdrawal unlocking” fees, and apps requesting your wallet’s recovery phrase—the secret words that give control of your funds. Mining software does not need those words.

The bottom line

For a learning experiment, Termux plus XMRig is the option worth investigating, not an unknown one-tap miner. Use only a device you own, monitor its temperature, and stop if it overheats.

For income, skip Android mining. A suitable computer is generally a better starting point, though even that does not guarantee a profit.
