Is there a Monero mining app on the Google Play Store?

You should not expect to find a legitimate app on the Google Play Store that mines Monero directly on your phone. Google Play’s policy does not allow apps that mine cryptocurrency on the device, although it does allow apps that help you manage mining happening elsewhere.

What a Play Store “mining app” actually does

An app with “Monero mining” in its name is not necessarily using your phone to earn XMR, the currency of the Monero network. A listing may describe something quite different:

  • Remote monitoring: You check the performance of a mining program running on your own computer.
  • Mining pool tracking: You view your balance or activity with a mining pool, a service where miners combine their work and share rewards.
  • Cloud mining: You pay a company that claims to run mining equipment for you.
  • Reward apps: You earn points for ads or tasks, with a promise that you can exchange them for cryptocurrency.

These are not the same as mining Monero on your phone. A Monero wallet app is different again: it lets you receive and send XMR, but it does not create mining income.

Store listings and policies can change. Check Google Play’s current policy and the app’s actual description rather than relying on its name, screenshots, or search ranking.

Why phone mining is a separate issue

Monero uses RandomX, a mining method designed to favor CPUs—the general-purpose processors inside computers. Phones also have CPUs, but that does not make them good mining devices.

Sustained mining can cause heat, battery drain, and reduced performance. Your phone may automatically slow its processor to keep temperatures under control. Leaving it plugged in does not remove those limits, and prolonged heat can contribute to battery wear.

Google Play’s restriction is about what apps may do, not proof that mining on Android is technically impossible. Software obtained outside the store may attempt it. However, installing an APK—an Android app installation file—from an unfamiliar website adds security risks and does not guarantee useful earnings.

How to judge an app’s claims

Before you install anything, ask one simple question: Where does the mining actually happen? A trustworthy description should make that clear.

Be especially cautious if an app:

  • Promises large or guaranteed daily XMR earnings from your phone.
  • Demands a payment to “activate” mining or unlock a withdrawal.
  • Shows a growing balance without explaining how rewards are calculated.
  • Asks for your wallet’s recovery phrase, the secret words that can give someone control of your funds.

A payout service may need your public receiving address. It does not need your recovery phrase. Good reviews and a Play Store listing are not guarantees that a service is safe or that it will pay you.

The bottom line

If you mean an official Google Play app that directly mines Monero using your phone’s processor, Google Play’s policy does not permit that. Apps for monitoring mining elsewhere are a different category.

Browser mining is also separate from a Play Store app. It still uses your device’s resources, so it does not avoid heat, battery use, or low performance. Before trying any option, verify what it really does and avoid treating an advertised balance as guaranteed income.
