Why have I not received a P2Pool payout yet?
You usually have not received a P2Pool payout because you have not earned a qualifying share yet, or because P2Pool has not found a Monero block while your share was still eligible. You may also have a payout that your wallet has not detected yet, or one that is visible but still locked.
Connected does not mean you have earned a payout
P2Pool is a mining pool without a central operator holding your rewards. It pays your wallet directly when it finds a Monero block, based on your qualifying recent work.
There are two different kinds of “shares” you might see:
- Miner shares: Reports of work accepted by your local mining connection. These help show that your miner is working.
- P2Pool shares: Work that meets P2Pool’s higher target and gets recorded on its sidechain, a separate record used to track miners’ contributions.
An “accepted” message in your miner does not necessarily mean you found a P2Pool share. Check your P2Pool software’s status or logs for shares credited to your mining address.
With a low hashrate, meaning the number of mining calculations your device performs each second, finding your first qualifying share can take a long time.
Your share needs a block within its payout window
P2Pool uses PPLNS, short for “Pay Per Last N Shares.” In everyday terms, only recent qualifying shares count toward a payout.
The usual window covers 2,160 sidechain blocks, roughly six hours. That is an estimate, not a guaranteed timer.
For you to receive a payout:
- You need a qualifying share in the payout window.
- Your P2Pool sidechain must find a Monero block while that share is eligible.
A share can expire without earning anything if no Monero block is found during its eligible period. It can also contribute to several payouts if several blocks are found before it expires.
P2Pool has no unpaid balance waiting for you to reach a withdrawal threshold. There is no manual “cash out” step.
Check which P2Pool sidechain you joined
P2Pool’s main and mini sidechains track shares separately. Make sure you are checking results for the one your software actually uses.
The main sidechain generally has a higher share difficulty, so a small miner may wait much longer to find a qualifying share. Mini is designed to make shares more accessible to smaller miners, though its Monero block discoveries can be less frequent.
A pool’s estimated time to find a share or block is an average, not a deadline. Random luck can produce much longer gaps. Changing sidechains does not move your existing shares to the new one.
Rule out a wallet or setup problem
Before assuming rewards are missing, check that:
- Your Monero node is fully synced and receiving new blocks.
- Your P2Pool software is synced and connected to peers.
- Your miner is connected to your intended P2Pool instance.
- Your configured payout address belongs to your wallet.
- Your wallet is synced and scanning from before your first possible payout.
P2Pool payouts are newly mined coins. They remain locked for 60 blocks, about two hours, before you can spend them. A locked payout has arrived; it is simply not spendable yet.
The bottom line
Check for a qualifying P2Pool share first, then a Monero block found while that share was eligible. If both happened, investigate your payout address and wallet sync. Never pay anyone an “unlock fee” to release a P2Pool payout.
