What is a Monero transaction ID?

A Monero transaction ID, often called a TXID or transaction hash, is a unique reference for a transaction on Monero’s public record, called the blockchain. You can use it to look up a payment’s status or help someone investigate a missing transfer. It does not publicly reveal the sender, recipient, or amount.

What a transaction ID looks like

A Monero TXID is a string of 64 characters, using numbers and the letters a through f. Your wallet creates this reference from the transaction’s data.

You do not choose the ID yourself. Your wallet or the service sending your XMR usually shows it in the payment details.

A TXID is different from:

  • Your wallet address: The destination you give someone so they can send you XMR.
  • A payment ID: An extra reference used by some services to help match a deposit to a customer.
  • Your wallet’s recovery phrase: The secret words that let you restore and control your funds.

A transaction can pay several recipients at once. If a mining service groups payouts together, your payout may share a TXID with payments to other miners. The ID identifies the whole transaction, not just your share.

What you can check with it

You can enter a TXID into a Monero block explorer, a website that lets you inspect public blockchain records.

For a confirmed transaction, an explorer can show information such as:

  • Which block includes it. A block is a batch of recorded transactions.
  • Its confirmation count, meaning how many blocks have been added starting with that block.
  • Its transaction fee and size.

Monero’s privacy features mean the explorer does not show a plain list of who paid whom and how much. A TXID alone therefore cannot prove that a particular amount reached your address.

You might also see a transaction waiting in the transaction pool, the collection of transactions that have been broadcast but are not yet included in a block. “Not found” can mean the transaction has not reached that explorer, was not broadcast successfully, or the ID was copied incorrectly.

Where to find your payout’s TXID

For a mining payout, open your mining service’s payout history and look for “transaction ID,” “TXID,” or “hash.” For a wallet transfer, open the transaction details in your wallet.

A mining balance marked “earned” or “pending” is not necessarily an on-chain payment yet. There may be no TXID until the service creates and sends the payout transaction.

If a payout seems missing:

  1. Copy the complete TXID rather than typing it.
  2. Check whether it appears in a Monero explorer.
  3. Let your wallet finish syncing—catching up with the blockchain.
  4. Contact the sender with the TXID and your payout reference.

Normal received funds generally need 10 confirmations before becoming spendable. Coins received directly as a newly mined block reward have a separate 60-block lock.

The bottom line

Your Monero TXID is a useful tracking reference, not a public receipt showing the recipient and amount. Keep it with your payout records, but do not rely on it alone for accounting or tax records.

Sharing it with trusted support does not give them control of your wallet, though it can connect you to that transaction. Never share your recovery phrase or private spending key to “verify” a TXID. If you need proof of payment, use your wallet’s transaction-proof feature instead.
