How many Monero have been mined so far?

Roughly 18.7–18.9 million Monero (XMR) will have been mined during 2026, depending on the date you check. That is an estimate, not a live count: the total keeps growing because Monero continues to issue new coins as miners add blocks.

Why the total keeps changing

Monero launched on April 18, 2014. Since then, miners have earned newly created XMR for helping confirm transactions and protect the network. A block is a batch of transactions added to Monero’s shared record, called the blockchain.

A new block arrives roughly every two minutes. That timing is an average, so the number of coins mined by a particular day will not match a calendar-based estimate perfectly.

This means any exact answer needs a point in time. A figure that was correct last month will be lower than today’s total.

The first 18.13 million XMR

Monero’s initial coin-creation period is called its main emission. “Emission” simply means the release of new coins through mining.

During that period, the reward for mining a block gradually decreased. By around June 2022, roughly 18.13 million XMR had been created.

But that was not a final supply limit. Monero then moved into tail emission, its ongoing system of smaller mining rewards. Under the current rules, the base reward is 0.6 XMR per block indefinitely.

So, if you have seen a claim that only 18.13 million Monero can ever exist, it confuses the end of the main emission with the end of mining rewards.

How much gets added now?

At the target pace of one block every two minutes, tail emission adds approximately:

  • 0.3 XMR per minute
  • 432 XMR per day
  • 157,680 XMR per 365-day year

You can make a rough supply estimate by starting with 18.13 million XMR in June 2022 and adding about 157,680 XMR for each year since then.

These numbers describe new coins created, not everything miners receive. Miners can also collect transaction fees. Those fees come from existing XMR paid by users, so they do not increase the total supply.

How to check the latest count

For the most up-to-date answer, check a live Monero block explorer—a tool that displays information recorded on the blockchain. Look for “total emission,” “coins emitted,” or a clearly explained supply figure.

Check its update time and definition, too. The amount mined is not necessarily the amount available to spend:

  • Newly mined coins remain locked for 60 blocks.
  • Some owners have lost access to their coins.
  • You cannot reliably subtract all lost coins from the total.

Monero’s privacy protections do not prevent the network from enforcing its coin-creation rules.

The bottom line

For a broad 2026 answer, think about 18.8 million XMR mined, with the exact figure depending on the date. Use a live explorer for a precise count, and remember that Monero’s supply continues growing through tail emission.
