How do I set the algorithm to rx/0 in XMRig?

Set XMRig’s algorithm to rx/0 by adding "algo": "rx/0" inside your pool entry in config.json. If you start XMRig from a command line instead, use --algo=rx/0 or the shorter -a rx/0. This selects the standard RandomX algorithm used by Monero.

Set it in your configuration file

Open the config.json file that your XMRig installation actually uses. Find the "pools" list, then add or change the "algo" setting inside the entry for your Monero pool. A mining pool combines your mining work with work from other miners.

Here is a minimal example showing where the setting belongs:

{
  "pools": [
    {
      "algo": "rx/0",
      "url": "POOL_HOST:PORT",
      "user": "YOUR_MONERO_WALLET_ADDRESS",
      "pass": "x"
    }
  ]
}

Replace POOL_HOST:PORT with the server address and port supplied by your pool. Replace the wallet placeholder with your own Monero receiving address. Use the password value your pool requests; x is common, but not universal.

If you already have a working configuration, edit it rather than replacing the whole file with this example. Keep your existing pool address, security settings, and other options.

Use the digit zero in rx/0, not the letter O. Keep the quotation marks, and do not add a comma after the last setting in an object.

Set it from the command line

For a command-line setup, use:

xmrig --algo=rx/0 --url=POOL_HOST:PORT --user=YOUR_MONERO_WALLET_ADDRESS --pass=x

The shorter version is:

xmrig -a rx/0 -o POOL_HOST:PORT -u YOUR_MONERO_WALLET_ADDRESS -p x

If you already have a startup command or script, add --algo=rx/0 to it. Replace any existing algorithm option rather than leaving conflicting options in place.

The program name depends on how you launch it. You might use ./xmrig on Linux or .\xmrig.exe in Windows PowerShell.

Check that XMRig uses your change

Save your configuration and restart XMRig. Check its startup messages and the messages announcing new mining jobs. You should see rx/0 identified as the algorithm for the work.

If your change does not appear to take effect:

  • Confirm that you edited the configuration file XMRig is loading.
  • Check your shortcut, startup script, or service for other settings.
  • Make sure you are connecting to your pool’s Monero mining port.
  • Update an old XMRig installation using the official project’s release files.

You can explicitly choose a configuration file with:

xmrig --config=config.json

A successful pool connection followed by accepted work is a better check than the setting alone.

Know what this setting changes

rx/0 selects standard RandomX, Monero’s mining algorithm since November 30, 2019. It does not select RandomX’s fast or light memory mode; those are separate settings.

Many Monero pools let XMRig select the correct algorithm automatically. Setting rx/0 explicitly removes that ambiguity, but it cannot turn another coin’s pool endpoint into a Monero endpoint.

XMRig is a standalone mining program, not a browser setting.

The bottom line

Use "algo": "rx/0" inside your pool entry, or launch XMRig with --algo=rx/0. Restart it and check the mining messages to confirm the selected algorithm.
