How do I sell mined Monero?

You can sell mined Monero by sending it to a service that accepts XMR, trading it for your local currency, and withdrawing the money to your bank account. Before you send anything, check that your mining payout is available to spend and that the service supports both Monero deposits and cash withdrawals where you live.

Get your mining payout ready

First, check where your XMR is held. A balance shown on a mining website or pool is not necessarily money in your own wallet yet. A mining pool is a group of miners who share rewards.

If your coins are still with a mining service:

  • Check its minimum payout amount and payout fee.
  • Request a withdrawal if payouts are not automatic.
  • Confirm that the payout reaches your wallet.

If you mined a block directly, newly mined coins stay locked for 60 blocks, or roughly two hours. Ordinary received payments, such as most pool payouts, generally need 10 confirmations before you can spend them. Confirmations are blocks added after the payment is included in the blockchain; ten usually takes about 20 minutes.

Your wallet should show how much is unlocked and available to send.

Choose somewhere you can actually cash out

Look for a reputable exchange—a service where you buy and sell cryptocurrency—that currently accepts XMR in your country. Monero support varies, and some exchanges have removed it or stopped accepting deposits.

Before opening an account or transferring coins, check:

  • XMR deposits: Are they supported and currently working?
  • Selling options: Can you sell directly for your local currency?
  • Bank withdrawals: Can you withdraw to an account you own?
  • Identity checks: What documents will you need?
  • Costs and limits: What are the trading fees, withdrawal fees, and minimum amounts?

If direct cash sales are unavailable, you may need to exchange XMR for another cryptocurrency first, then sell that elsewhere. That adds fees, price risk, and potentially another tax-reporting event.

Person-to-person sales are another option, but carry greater fraud and payment-reversal risks. If you use one, choose a reputable service with escrow, which holds the coins while the trade is completed. Escrow does not make every payment method safe.

Send, sell, and withdraw carefully

Generate a fresh XMR deposit address inside your chosen service. Copy it carefully and check the full address before approving the transfer. Never send Monero to a Bitcoin address or an address meant for a different coin.

For a meaningful amount, consider a small test transfer first, provided it meets the deposit minimum.

Once the deposit is credited:

  1. Select the option to sell XMR.
  2. Review the amount of cash you will receive after fees.
  3. Confirm the sale.
  4. Withdraw the cash to your bank.

A market order sells at available prices, so the final amount can differ from the preview. A limit order sets your minimum selling price, but may not complete.

Never share your wallet’s recovery phrase—the secret words that let someone control your funds—or pay a surprise “tax” to unlock a withdrawal.

The bottom line

Sell only unlocked XMR through a service you have checked, and compare the cash you will receive after all fees. Keep mining payout records, dates, local-currency values, sale receipts, and fees: mining income and later gains or losses may be taxed separately. Check your local rules or ask a tax professional.
