Can I mine Monero on a phone using Cake Wallet?
No. Cake Wallet does not mine Monero on your phone; it lets you receive, store, and send XMR, Monero’s currency. You can use it to receive mining payouts from a separate mining setup, but installing Cake Wallet or leaving it open will not earn you coins.
What Cake Wallet actually does
Think of Cake Wallet as a tool for managing your Monero, not a tool for producing it. It manages the private keys—the secret information that lets you spend your funds—and shows your balance and transactions.
When Cake Wallet says it is syncing, it is checking Monero’s transaction history for payments belonging to you. This can use your phone’s battery, internet connection, and processing power, but it is not mining. You do not receive a reward for syncing.
Connecting Cake Wallet to a remote node does not change that. A remote node is another computer that provides information about the Monero network. Connecting to one helps your wallet work; it does not turn your phone into a miner.
Can your phone mine separately?
Some Android phones can technically run separate Monero mining software. That is different from mining through Cake Wallet, and setting it up can require technical work. On an iPhone, app restrictions make ordinary on-device mining especially impractical.
Monero uses RandomX, a mining method designed for CPUs, the general-purpose processors inside computers and phones. However, being able to run it does not make a phone a good mining device.
RandomX’s fast mode uses a dataset of about 2,080 MB, plus additional working memory. Phones also have limited cooling. Under a continuous mining workload, your phone may:
- Become hot and drain its battery quickly.
- Slow itself down to prevent overheating.
- Feel sluggish when you use other apps.
- Experience faster battery wear from prolonged heat.
You should not expect meaningful profit. Any estimate depends on your device, electricity costs, and current network conditions. Check a live mining calculator rather than trusting a fixed daily earnings claim.
How to receive mining payouts in Cake Wallet
If you mine on a computer or use a separate mining service, Cake Wallet can serve as the destination for your payouts.
The basic process is:
- Open your Monero wallet in Cake Wallet.
- Find its Receive screen and copy your receiving address.
- Enter that address in your mining software or the service’s payout settings.
- Check the payout threshold—the minimum balance required before the service sends you funds.
An ordinary payout needs 10 confirmations, meaning the network must include and build on the transaction before the funds become spendable. Newly mined block rewards have a separate 60-block lock.
Cake Wallet does not need to stay open for a payment to reach your address. It does need to sync afterward to display that payment.
The bottom line
You can receive mining earnings in Cake Wallet, but you cannot mine Monero with Cake Wallet itself. A phone is generally better used to manage your wallet than to run a continuous mining workload.
Be wary of anyone promising guaranteed “Cake Wallet mining” returns. A legitimate payout setup needs your public receiving address—not your recovery phrase, which can give someone control of your funds. Never share that phrase or pay an unexpected “unlock fee” to release supposed mining profits.
